Moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas and all adult readers are invited to sign up for Adult Summer Reading.  Get ready to explore novel destinations during this year's Summer Reading program.  Our Librarians have prepared book and movie lists to guide you along the way.  Read/watch/listen to as much and to whatever you wish and you'll be entered into our drawing for great prizes.

Musical Heritage Concert at the Museum Featuring Planet D Nonet

Sunday, June 24 at 2pm

Join us for this concert by Planet D Nonet under the direction of RJ Spangler featuring their "Parade Valley Walk" performance. Paradise Valley Walk is a concert and lecture tribute to Detroit's overlooked pre-Motown musical roots. The performance showcases early swing music from the 1920s and 1930s highlighting the musical links to R&B and jump blues of the late 1940s and into the 1950s. This activity is funded in part by the MICHIGAN COUNCIL FOR ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS and the MICHIGAN HUMANITIES COUNCIL.

Help us celebrate the end of Summer Reading with Rita Salem-Pappadakis of the Chaldean American Ladies of Charity who will demonstrate the healthy aspects of a Middle Eastern diet using recipes from the Ma Baseema Cookbook with samples for all. Books will be available for purchase and singing. Frosty summer coffee drinks will also be served! Summer Reading prize winners will be announced at this event. Join us for food and fun!
