Build Imagination Collection
The Build Imagination collection is a set of 100 books about architecture, art, color, Legos, graphic design, shapes, and famous landmarks.
Made possible with a generous donation from the Rae Dumke Development Fund of the Michigan Architectural Foundation (MAF), this collection features fiction and non-fiction books on topics that help foster children's imaginations and raise awareness about architecture.
Dumke is the former Executive Director of MAF, AIA Michigan (American Institute of Architects Michigan), and AIA Detroit. She currently serves on the MAF Board of Trustees. Upon her retirement, the Michigan Architectural Foundation established a dedicated Endowment Fund to honor her legacy of 43 years of service to AIA and MAF. Contributions to The Rae Dumke Endowment came from AIA members, the construction industry, friends, and family. A major funding event is the annual Dumke Open, a golf outing to raise funds for the Endowment.
Stephanie Klimmek, Head of Youth Services, Rae Dumke, and Doug Koschik, Library Director, unveiled the Baldwin Library's Build Imagination collection at an Open House on Saturday, September 26, 2015.
In October 2016, the collection was presented to 5 hospitals and cancer centers around Michigan, including: C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital (Ann Arbor), Bronson Children’s Hospital (Kalamazoo), Renucci Hospitality House (Grand Rapids), Ronald McDonald House (Grand Rapids), and Munson Hospital Cowell Family Cancer Center (Traverse City).
