Accessing Online Databases from Home
Access to library databases from home is a premium service reserved for registered patrons from Birmingham, Beverly Hills, and Bingham Farms.
- If you have never accessed one of Baldwin’s databases from home, proceed to step 2. If you’ve configured your computer to access Baldwin’s databases in the past, remove the outdated proxy server by following the directions here.
- From our homepage (baldwinlib.org), click on Library Collections then select Databases. Click here to view the full list of databases.
- Click on the database you wish to view.
- A login page will appear. Enter your Library Barcode/ Alternate ID and PIN. Click on Login.
- You are now connected to our database collection.

Removing the Old Proxy Server
If you have previously configured your computer to access our databases, you must remove this outdated configuration. The following directions will walk you through this process depending on what browser you have.
Internet Explorer - Cable or DSL
- From the menu bar, click: Tools > Internet Options
- Click: Connections tab > LAN settings
- Remove address (http://66.51***) from text box
- Uncheck: Automatically detect settings
- Uncheck: Use automatic configuration script
- Click: OK > OK
- Close and re-open Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer – Dial-Up
- From the menu bar, click: Tools > Internet Options
- Click: Connections tab
- Under Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings, click the name of your connection
- Click: Settings button
- Remove address (http://66.51***) from text box
- Uncheck: Automatically detect settings
- Uncheck: Use automatic configuration script
- Click: OK > OK
- Close and re-open Internet Explorer
Firefox
- From the menu bar, click: Tools > Options (Mac OS X: From the toolbar, click: Firefox > Preferences)
- Click: Advanced icon at the top of the window
- Click: Network tab > Settings button
- Remove address (http://66.51***) from text box
- Check: No Proxy
- Click: OK > OK
Netscape / Mozilla
- From the menu bar, click Edit > Preferences
- Click: Plus sign on left side of Preferences window (Mac OS X: Click: Plus sign)
- Click: Proxies
- Remove address (http://66.51***) from text box
- Uncheck: Automatic proxy configuration
- Click: Reload button
- Click: OK
