Borrowers are responsible for returning Library materials by their due dates and in the condition they were borrowed. If a borrower returns Library materials in such condition that the Library must replace them, the borrower will be billed for the cost of replacing the material plus a processing fee.
The Library reserves the right to assess and declare the condition of all returned library materials. Depending on the extent of damage, the full replacement cost of the item may be charged to the borrower. Highlighting, marking, soiling, and damage by liquids are all examples of damage to Library materials.
The Library does not base its replacement policy on the condition of the item. We do not discount our prices to reflect the age or condition of the item.
The Library does not accept replacement copies of materials in place of paying for lost or damaged materials.
Should you find an item you paid to replace, return it to the Library along with your receipt within 30 days of the date you paid for the item. You will be refunded the replacement cost of the material, minus the non-refundable processing fee and associated overdue fees for the item.
Patrons with fines of $10 or greater will have library privileges suspended.
Patrons with at least one lost item and fines greater than $50 may be referred to a collection agency.
Please note that items obtained through MeLCat or interlibrary loan are subject to the rules of the lending library or consortium. The cost to replace material borrowed through MelCat or interlibrary loan is lost or damaged will vary and may have substantially higher replacement charges.
Certain that you returned an item but you still see it on your record? Please let us know!
At that point, we initiate a claims returned search. Our staff will search our shelves for a month or more to try to locate the item in question.
In the meantime, we ask that you double-check your home and car to make sure that it didn't slip behind a couch or under a car seat.
