| Approval of Minutes |
Paul Vander Meer moved that the minutes of the April 18, 2005 meeting be approved as written. Ann Conigliaro seconded. Jan Bird moved that the minutes of the February 21, 2005 meeting be approved as written. Ann Conigliaro seconded. |

| Financial Reports |
Ileane Thal commented on both the Government Day Breakfast at the Community House and The Reserve facility party for the city of Birmingham. |

| President's Report |
Ileane Thal commended everyone who had worked on the Library of the Year proposal. Ileane announced that the public comment section of the meeting would be moved to the end of the meeting, however the public can still comment after a motion is made and seconded. |

| WOW Presentation |
Julie Farkas updated the Board on the summer reading programs which begin the first week of June. |

| Directors Report |
Marti announced that Sirsi will not go live until the last week of September, however staff training will still be the week of the Dream Cruise. The Bloomfield Hills suit was settled today in favor of the library. Marti said the library got a gift certificate from the Village Players as a thank you for the joint programming the Library has done with them. It will be given to SOC to raffle as a fundraiser. The Library was in the Birmingham parade yesterday, and it was also library day at the Tigers game. |

| Associate Directors' Reports | Julie Farkas reported that the Library has achieved 80% of the management plan goals set last year. Doug Koschik said that the reclassification of the cd’s accounts for the huge increase in their circulation. |

| Friends of the Library | Warren Spatz said the Friends had a good book sale and made $12,698.00.

| Finance |
Tom Sweeney said the Finance committee made the budget presentation to the city and there were a lot of questions this year. The budget passed. The Board discussed the millage issue. Tom Sweeney made a motion to place the question approved at last month’s meeting on the ballot of November, 2005 and to authorize the Director to take all steps necessary to secure its placement on the ballot with city authorization. | Personnel |
Ann Conigliaro passed out forms to evaluate Marti Custer. After discussion, the Board agreed to fill out the evaluations electronically by June 1 st. Paul Vander Meer passed out an employee survey. The Board discussed the survey. It was decided that the Board members would bring their edits of the survey to discuss at next month’s meeting. |

| Miscellaneous | A motion to approve the 2006 Library Board calendar was made by Ann Conigliaro. Tom Sweeney seconded. |

| Public Comment | Leneda Barcutian said it is a big issue for taxpayers; they do not want the Library Board and the city commission to meet on the same night. Martha Hodge said that since both are city business, it should be arranged so that people can attend both. Seth Chafetz thinks the Library should ask the city commission not to schedule extra meetings on the third Monday of the month. VOTE: Yeas, Ileane Thal The Board made a resolution to honor and recognize the service of Toni Grow, part-time librarian in Adult Services. Toni is retiring after 12 years of service to the Baldwin Public Library. |

| New Business | Paul Vander Meer made a motion for the Board to notify the city commission that we have passed our 2006 calendar to keep conflicts in mind. Ann Conigliaro seconded. | Public Comment | Seth Chafetz asked if Marti Custer pays her own dues to Rotary or if the Library pays it. Marti Custer responded these dues are paid by the library. |

| Adjournment | The May 16, 2005 meeting of the Baldwin Public Library Board of Directors was adjourned at 8:48 P.M. for the Trust Meeting. Motioned by Paul Vander Meer. Seconded by Ann Conigliaro.
