LIBRARY BORROWING GUIDELINES
The Circulation Desk is the
place to:
LIBRARY CARDS
You can apply for your library card at the Circulation desk. Please
bring valid picture identification (driver’s license, passport,
state ID) to verify that you live in our service area: Birmingham, Beverly
Hills or Bingham Farms. If you have moved recently and your identification
doesn’t reflect your new address, you can bring an official piece
of mail or checkbook with your name and current address along with your
picture identification.
If you work in our service area (Birmingham, Beverly Hills or Bingham
Farms) and have proof of employment, such as a paycheck stub or a letter
from your employer, you are eligible for a Baldwin card.
Reciprocal Privileges for TLN Members
Baldwin Public Library participates in a
cooperative called The Library Network, or TLN, which includes many libraries
in Wayne and Oakland counties. If your home library is part of TLN, and offers reciprocal borrowing privileges,
you must first go to your home library and get a card and a statement that you are in good
standing at your home library. Once you
have a card from your home library, we will enter that information into our database and
you can use that card to check out
materials at Baldwin. You will need to register your card with us by bringing
your card, your statement of good standing, along with identification which shows your current address
to the Circulation desk.
RENEWALS

You may renew your library materials in person, by phone or online.
To renew during library hours by phone, call 248-647-1700.
You will need to have your library card number in order for us to access
your record. In order to renew online you will need your barcode number and your pin
to access your account
To renew your material online, click on “My Library Account”
then “Renew my materials”. Next, type in your library
card number and pin and click on “Login”.
You will see a list of the items checked out on your card. Click
in the box next to each item you wish to renew. Finally, click on
“Renew Items”. If the item has successfully been renewed,
you will see the new due date. If the item is not renewable, you
will see the words “Not Renewed” in the column on the right.
If the items are overdue, fines will be assessed.
Any item that is on hold for another patron is not available for renewal.
RESERVES
Holds are a premium service. They can be placed on any item except Hot Picks books, Hot Picks DVD’s,
magazines or puppets. This can be done in person, by phone or online.
To place a reserve online, search the catalog and select the title you
would like to reserve. Type in your library bar-code number and
pin. You will then be given instructions to complete
the process.
If you have an e-mail address registered at the library, you will receive
e-mail notification when the item is available for you. Otherwise,
the notification will be mailed to you. Reserves are held for one
week and may be picked up at the Circulation desk.
CLAIMS RETURNED
If an item remains on your record after you are sure it has been returned,
please let us know. At that point, we can initiate a claims returned
search. Our staff will search our shelves for a month or more to
try to locate the item in question. In the meantime, we ask that
you double-check your home and car to make sure that it didn’t slip
behind a couch or under your car seats!
