CODE OF CONDUCT
These rules have been adopted for the comfort and protection of all people using library materials and services.
The Library staff will courteously, but firmly, enforce them. We ask your cooperation in maintaining a pleasant atmosphere, conducive to the effective use of library materials and services.
- Positive behavior is expected at all time. Disruptive behavior will not be permitted. This includes disorderly conduct, noise or activity, whether intentional or inadvertent, that interferes with the rights of others, physical abuse, abusive or threatening language and misuse of library furnishings. Poor personal hygiene that disturbs or interferes with other people’s or the staff’s use of the facilities is not
allowed.
- Be careful not to infringe upon nor to annoy other library visitors. Avoid all annoying behaviors, such as unwanted staring, too close proximity and rowdy behaviors that interfere with others' use of the building.
- Remember that most people think of libraries as quiet spaces. Avoid making excessive noise, such as playing audio equipment at a level so that others can hear, talking or singing loudly, and cell phone usage that disturbs other people.
- Activities that are prohibited:
• Soliciting
• Sleeping
• Use of tobacco, alcohol & illegal drugs
• Use of computers to receive obscene, sexually explicit or illegal matter in accordance with the Library’s Internet Use policy and Michigan Compiled Law 397.606
- Persons committing theft, vandalism or other illegal acts are subject to prosecution. Larceny from the library is punishable in accordance with Birmingham City Code 74-94.
- Guide dogs are permitted in the building.
- All people shall enter the library properly attired, including shirts and footwear.
- Covered drinks are permissible in public areas and must be disposed
of when finished.
- A maximum of two bags of any type per person may be brought into the building. Bedrolls, blankets, duffle bags, suitcases or large plastic bags are not allowed in the library.
- Wheeled carts are not allowed in the library. Baby strollers, walkers and wheelchairs are exempt.
- Children under the age of 10 must
be accompanied in the library in accordance with the library's Unattended Children's Policy.
