Open Office and Overdrive

If you have Open Office and are trying to download books from the MetroNet Online Lending Library, you might run into problems. Here's how to avoid them.

  1. Start by using Firefox as your browser (how you access the internet). If you don't have firefox, it is free, and you can download it here.
  2. Go to MetroNet Online Lending Library and make sure that you've downloaded the Overdrive Media Console.
  3. Browse or search for content, add it to your eCart, and checkout.
  4. After you check out, click "download"
  5. Click "Save File" (it may automatically download to your My Documents --> Downloads folder, or it may ask you where to save it, it if asks, remember where you saved it).
  6. Logout of the MetroNet Online Lending Library and close Firefox
  7. Open the Overdrive Media Console (which you downloaded in step 2)
  8. Click "File" and then "Open"
  9. Browse to download the content (either where you saved it or in your"My Documents" folder and then your "Downloads" folder
  10. Choose the file and click open
  11. The file should being downloading in the Overdrive Media Console
  12. From there you can play it or transfer it to your portable device
