Homeschooled Student Grateful for Baldwin Library’s Resources

For many people, the significance of a library and all that it has to offer is not realized until there is a real need to use its many resources.

Paul Stillwell found that out when he was homeschooled by his mother beginning at age twelve.

Nearly everyday he could be found at the Baldwin Library.

“The library became very important to me and I was fortunate that there were always librarians to help me find the resources I needed. As an educational resource it allowed me to finish my education and prepare me for college,” says Stillwell.

For three years Stillwell was a National History Day participant and national finalist as he performed as Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, and Martin Luther.

“I had to know a lot of information about each figure, and the librarians helped me a lot,” he said.

Stillwell’s experience at the Baldwin Library has had an even more profound influence on his life. Today he is attending Wayne State University where he will obtain a library sciences degree.

“I love the environment of a library and I like the concept of helping people find what they need. I want to be a librarian and be a part of that.”
