Patron Explains Why She Joined the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library

Costello FamilyWhen it comes to utilizing the Baldwin Public Library, one is hard pressed to find any family that uses it more than Therese and Pat Costello and their four children.

We are in the library at least twice a week, whether it’s for participating in youth programs and book clubs or checking out books, magazines, DVDs, CD’s, or computer games,” says Therese Costello.  “We have lived in other places and always joined the local library. But in comparison, we really love the variety of services and resources the Baldwin Library offers. There is something for every age group.”

But for Therese Costello, when you are a member of an organization, such as a church, a school, or a library, she believes it is essential to lend a hand.

That is why Costello became a member of the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library, a 501 (c) (3) dues paying non-profit organization whose mission is to provide financial support for library programs.

The Friends of the Library is very important, especially in this economy because we help fund various library programs which I don’t know would exist without our help,” says Costello. “Unfortunately it seems a lot of people don’t understand all of the library’s benefits, and therefore I think it’s underappreciated.”

Recently she helped set up the semiannual book sale held every spring and fall that serves as the group’s biggest fundraiser.

“Although our family doesn’t usually buy books, it’s hard not to when you go to the Baldwin book sale. But we usually end up donating them back anyway,” she said.
