Update: The water restoration process is complete and the Youth Room is now reopen!

We experienced significant water damage in the Youth Room and staff offices on the first floor of the library late on Thursday, August 4. The water damage was caused by excessive rain and a faulty sink drain. Due to extensive damage, we will need to carpet and replace drywall in the Youth Room over the next several weeks. Fortunately no books or materials were damaged.

Because the water damage involves the circulation staff office, we are unable to reopen until those workstations are accessible. Our restoration company and plumbers have been diligently working to assist us in safely reopening the library soon.

We have developed a three-phase reopening plan:

  • Phase 1: Curbside Pickup begins Friday, August 12
  • Phase 2: Library reopens, except for Youth Room. Limited Youth materials available in the Legacy Room in the Grand Hall begins Monday, August 22
  • Phase 3: Youth Room reopensSeptember 12

While the Youth Room is closed to the public, we are setting up a temporary Youth area in the Legacy Room off of the Grand Hall. You will be able to browse a small selection of materials in this space while the restoration work continues. Unfortunately, no play area will be available for children until the Youth Room reopens later this fall.

You may return items to our curbside drop box and materials return slot outside the front entrance throughout the closure.

Please do not leave used book donations on the front steps at this time. We will begin accepting donations for the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library as soon as the building reopens.
