Teen volunteers must be 14-19 years old. Anyone under 18 must have a valid work permit. Effective Oct. 2, 2026, all youth work permits in Michigan must be obtained exclusively through the State of Michigan’s centralized work permit system, overseen by the Wage and Hour Division. Work permits are issued through the Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP).
To access YEPP, you will login through MiLogin. If you already have a MiLogin account, you can search for the Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP) and add it to your applications. If you don’t have a MiLogin account, you will have to create one.
MiLogin allows you to access many state services and systems online, across multiple departments, using a single User ID and password.

Minors under the age of 14 are not eligible for a work permit and are not legally allowed to volunteer. Any feedback about changes to this law should be directed to your Michigan State Representative [link opens in new tab].

Friends of the Baldwin Public Library
If you’re interested in supporting the Library in a different way, consider becoming a member of or volunteering with the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library. This group raises money to support Library events and programming, and helps organize used book sales throughout the year.
