Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a program designed to encourage reading. Fourth and fifth grade students form teams with an adult coach, read from a selected list of six books, and then participate in a contest where they will compete with other teams by answering questions based on the books.

Who May Participate?
All fourth and fifth graders who attend a Birmingham Public School are eligible to participate by organizing teams of 4 to 6 members. Each team must have one adult team coach. It is not necessary for team members to attend the same school or be in the same grade. Students are responsible for forming their own teams. Students who have not found a team by Wednesday, December 27 can fill out the appropriate form on the Library’s website. Library staff will do their best to help students find a team, but cannot guarantee placement. Form will be posted on December 27.
How Does My Team Register?
Who can be a Coach and what are their responsibilities?
The coach may be a parent or other interested adult who will serve as the contact person between the team and the Baldwin Public Library. Coaches will help the teams stay on track and come up with strategies for Battle preparation. All coaches must attend a Coaches Meeting at the Baldwin Public Library. The Coaches Meeting dates are Monday, December 4, 2017, at 7 pm, or Thursday, December 7th, 2017, at 7 pm . Coaches are also responsible for arranging transportation for their team to and from Seaholm High School on the day of Battle.
