Mission & Policies
The Baldwin Public Library enriches Birmingham and participating communities by providing opportunities and resource for individuals of all ages and background to learn, connect and discover.
The Baldwin Library Board is dedicated to providing an enriching library experience to the community. Our Board is made up of six elected members who:
- Adopt bylaws and rules for the board’s governance
- Maintain control over the building and grounds of the library
- Control the expenditure of all funds credited to the library fund
- Can appoint, supervise, evaluate, discipline or remove a director
- Approve an annual library budget
- Adopt policies, rules and regulations regarding use of the library
Our Board is the keeper of all library policies; we cannot operate effectively without formally adopted, written policies. These policies are adopted by resolution of the Library Board in a meeting conducted according to the Open Meetings Act.
Other roles of our Library Board:
Acting as the public trustee of the library
Resolving differences (e.g., personnel disputes and citizen complaints)
The Michigan Constitution grants public library boards the authority and responsibility to adopt regulations, or policies, for the public’s use of libraries. If you have questions concerning our policies, please contact the Baldwin Library Director at 248-647- 7339 or email@example.com The Library Board meets in the library on the third Monday of each month. All members of the public are encouraged to attend. Library policies are reviewed annually at our July meeting or more often if needed. Community input is always welcome.
