Michigan Interlibrary Loan

To renew Michigan Interlibrary Loan items, call the Circulation Desk or visit the library. Items that have a 3-week loan period can be renewed once, and items that have a 1-week loan period cannot be renewed.  MeL items that are substantially overdue cannot be renewed.  The fine for overdue MeL items is $0.20/day.  Replacement costs for MeL items are set by the lending libraries; please call and speak with Circulation if you have lost a MeL item.

Search for items at statewide libraries through MeLcat. You can login with your Baldwin Library Card and request items to be sent to Baldwin for pickup.

Visiting Patron Service

Baldwin is part of Michigan Interlibrary Loan Visiting Patron Service, which allows Baldwin patrons to visit participating MeL libraries and borrow items directly.  When you bring materials to their check-out desk, they will need your home library card. Be sure to have a picture ID with you as well.

These materials will be listed on your MeL account at Baldwin, and you may return them to either Baldwin or the library from which you checked them out. Please contact the Circulation Desk to request a renewal.

Partner Libraries

MeL is funded by the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) via the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library of Michigan, part of the Michigan Department of Education. Additional funding is provided by the State of Michigan.

We’d love to hear your suggestions for new titles. If you’re a resident of Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms or Bloomfield Hills, feel free to share your thoughts on how we can enhance our collection below. To be considered, you must include your Library barcode or mailing address, as well as supporting details about your suggestion (book, CD, DVD, etc.). If your item is added, we’ll be sure to contact you.

Once you find an item in the MeL catalog:

  • Click on “Get It For Me” on the item record. You will be taken to a login page
  • Select “Baldwin Public Library” from the pull-down menu, and enter your library card barcode and name to request the item
  • To search/request more items, use the MeL catalog navigation buttons. If you use your browser’s back button, you may inadvertently order duplicate copies of items
  • You will stay logged into the MeL catalog until you click “Log Out” at the top of the screen (or are inactive in MeL for 15 minutes)
  • You will receive a notification from Baldwin when the item is delivered to us and is ready for pickup. It can take up to two weeks to receive material through MeL
